About Mike

Mike Lurie waving

Rooted in Seminole
Committed to Its Future

Seminole is more than where I live — it is home.

A proud native of the Greater Seminole area, Mike Lurie has lived here nearly his entire life. This is the community that shaped who he is, and the place to where he and his family are deeply connected.

Mike's desire to serve comes from gratitude and a genuine belief in the potential of our city. He is committed to thoughtful, responsible public policy that strengthens our community, enhances quality of life, and reflects the values of the residents who make Seminole such a special place.

Serving on the City Council is an opportunity to give back to the community that raised him — and to help ensure Seminole remains a place we are all proud to call home.

Seminole Native

Born in 1979 and raised here; a proud Seminole High graduate, Class of 1997.

Small Business Owner

Built and ran a local IT company for 14 years; now GM of the family commerical real estate business.

Community Leader

Past President of the Rotary Club of Seminole. Past Director of the Seminole Chamber of Commerce.

Family Man

Married to his wife Bonnie, an educator, for 20 years, and father to three daughters — Julianne, Avery, & Josephine.

Family & Roots

Three generations of Seminole ties.

Mike was born at Bayfront Medical Center on a cold and rainy Tuesday in February to Ed and Vivian Lurie. Ed was one of the City of Seminole's founding fathers well-known for his philanthropy and community service. Mike was followed a couple of years later by his sister, Sara Beth. Both Mike and Sara attended all of the Seminole schools on 86th Avenue and Mike graduated from Seminole High School with honors in 1997. While attending Seminole High, Mike was a saxophonist in their award-winning Warhawk Marching Band.

Mike went on to earn his degree in Computer & Information Science with a Minor in Mathematics from Florida State University before returning home to Seminole in 2001. Mike followed in his father's footsteps and became an entrepreneur, founding Oakhurst Technology and Computer Services. He successfully operated that business in Seminole until he sold it to a competitor in 2016. Mike then began full time management of his family's commercial real estate business.

In 2004, Mike met his wife Bonnie, an educator with a Bachelor's and a Master's degree from FSU and an Educational Leadership Certification from USF. Bonnie has taught special education and served as both a behavior specialist and a public school administrator in Pinellas County. Mike and Bonnie married in 2006 and have lived in Seminole ever since, raising their three daughters — Julianne (19), Avery (17), and Josephine (9).

Community Service

Rotary Club of Seminole

Mike has been a member of the Rotary Club of Seminole since 2004. He has served on the Board of Directors multiple times and was President of the Club in 2024-2025.

Mike led the Club through the devastating 2024 hurricane season. His Club was awarded a Rotary District 6950 Governor's Citation during Mike's presidency.

Hurricane Relief

Mike led the Seminole Rotary response to Hurricanes Helene and Milton by organizing staging and organizing water and ice distribution to the Barrier Islands. The Rotary Club of Seminole was the first relief organization on the Barrier Islands following Helene… we were there before FEMA.

Mike also organized supply drives, in partnership with the Greater Seminole Area Chamber of Commerce, to support the affected communities.

Laptops for Graduates

In partnership with Seminole High School, Mike secured a Rotary District Grant to purchase fifteen laptops and designer backpacks for college-bound graduating seniors in need. With the help of other volunteers from the Rotary Club of Seminole, Mike tested each laptop before distribution and presented them to the High School at a ceremony this past May.

Volunteer Work

In addition to serving on the Board of Temple Beth El for three consecutive terms, Mike volunteered as their primary IT support for many years until he sold his technology company in 2016.

Mike also designed, hosted and maintained the Boston Terrier Rescue of Florida's website from 2007 - 2016 and has continued to do the same for the Rotary Club of Seminole since 2004.
